The Buddhayana Vidyalaya Foundation was established on May 19, 2004, having the Deed of Notary Vitta Nogosannyono, SH No. 38 of 2004. The foundation was formed on the initiative and chaired by Y.M. Bhiksu Nyanamaitri Mahasthavira who is also the coordinator of the Great Sangha of Indonesia region III. The Buddhayana Vidyalaya Foundation started operating with an official office at Jalan Ikan Hiu Blok A No. 59-61 Teluk Betung – Bandar Lampung.
As stated in the articles of association, the Buddhayana Vidyalaya Foundation established a higher school which was named the Jinarakkhita College of Buddhism (STIAB), which means “protected by the Buddha”. The name Jinarakkhita itself was taken from the name of the late Y.M. Ashin Jinarakkhita (Sukong) on the basis of remembering His good services which have revived the role of Buddhists in Indonesia. His love for Buddhists, especially in Lampung Province, both in the city and in the village, made him ask that his body be cremated in Lampung Province.
The inaugural lecture at STIAB Jinarakkhita began on September 27 2004 at the Bodhisattva High School Building, Jalan Kuripan Setia Budi No. 7-8 Kuripan Teluk Betung – Bandar Lampung for 1 year. To coincide with the first anniversary of STIAB Jinarakkhita which fell on September 27 2005, all campus administration and lecture management activities were moved from the Bodhisattva High School Building to the Buddhayana Vidyalaya Foundation Building.
On February 7, 2006, the Operational Permit from the Ministry of Religion of the Central STIAB Jinarakkhita was issued through the Decree of the Director General of Hindu and Buddhist Community Guidance Number: DJ.V/06/SK/2006 dated February 7, 2006. In accordance with the mandate of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System has been spelled out in Government Regulation Number 19 of 2005 concerning National Education Standards, STIAB Jinarakkhita as a Buddhist Religious College and is part of Indonesian Higher Education which should prepare itself according to the standards and criteria that have been outlined to become a tertiary institution. high quality and high quality.
In the same year, STIAB Jinarakkhita Lampung developed various aspects of higher education needs In 2010, the construction of the STIAB Jinarakkhita campus building was carried out on a land area of ± 14,343 M2 on Jalan Raya Suban, Pidada Village – Panjang District. In 2015 STIAB Jinarakkhita Lampung has a main building with a capacity of three floors with complete infrastructure and management of a campus according to criteria and standards. Since 2015 until now, STIAB Jinarakkhita has been operating in its own buildings and buildings.
